Jane Sowerby - Actor/Singer/Songwriter/Writer

Jane Sowerby knew in her heart that she was inspired to be an entertainer when she showed up to Grade 1 'show & tell' with a cut-out-cardboard box and pretended to be on TV !!!  Fresh out of high school she attended the AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DRAMATIC ARTS in NY and the following year was accepted at the NEIGHBORHOOD PLAYHOUSE (NY) ... but she opted to follow her rock 'n roll dream instead.

Living in Los Angeles she was repped by manager Gerry Tolman (Crosby, Stills and Nash) and lawyer David Rudich (Montley Crue).  ... Alas a record deal was evasive and she returned to Canada and settled in Vancouver, B.C. keeping busy in Film/TV all the while constantly writing & recording music with her longtime partner and the 'love of her life' Richard Zwic.

In 2003 her comedy short JANE POST that she wrote, directed and produced was nominated for 6 LEO AWARDS including 'Best Short & Best Screenwriter'.  Jane won for 'Best Actress.'

In 2004 Richard and Jane and their first fur kid Rupert - moved to Toronto where they currently reside. They continue to write & make music and Jane continues to act.

She also has a passion for storytelling and completed five feature screenplays, three of which were optioned.  A character, Myrtle Koch, that she created in Ivana Chubbuck's master class in Vancouver, B.C. inspired one of those screenplays. After that screenplay received positive feedback from Oscar winning producer Alix Madigan (Winter's Bone) ... Jane was more determined than ever to discover more about Myrtle's story and sat down and wrote her first novel.

Myrtle and the Monster: Love Isn't Always Perfect is a young adult literary fiction with speculative elements, spanning the 1960's-1980's.  It is the story of a spirited romanticist looking for love in this parallel coming-of-age Cinderella tale. But in order to realize her destiny, Myrtle must overcome 'the monster' in the mirror after causing the childhood accident that left her face mangled ... and her mama dead.  The novel is complete at 80,000 words.

Given Jane's decades of being an actor she's always been drawn to finding the humour in the underbelly of the characters she plays ... no matter how tragic.  Jane is confident that Myrtle's heartbreaking but inspired journey will make readers laugh and cry and her story will linger in their thoughts ... long after the final chapter.  It is yet unpublished - but she is excited to find the right team to uplift people with Myrtle's fiery optimism & her passionate underdog story!
